How many hours sleep do you get?
Do you get enough? Do you make sure that you do because you feel its important or are you not bothered?
Does your job affect your sleeping pattern?

Personally I usually say anything below 6 us bad but 7 is a good sleep. I regularly hit around 6 though in the week but every night I make that choice because going to bed before 11 just feels like you're letting work take priority.

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
I try to get 7-8 hours every night.

Not just because I get up around 6am for work but because I'm running, cycling or swimming pretty much every night.

I'm tired enough as it is after a full days work and a run, so try and get as much sleep as possible.

In bed by 10:30, up at 7:30 so that's 9 hours, but I like to have sex a couple of times before bed so it's more like 8 hours 50

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
Because I was off work for 6 months at home I got into the Thai style of kipping, As iin most rural villages the people rise and fall with the sun, so I was kipping at about 6 or7 pm and up at 4-30ish. The missus got up the same time to go to the market and stock her little shop. Kids up 5 30

I'm still nodding off at 8pm now I'm working and up at 4ish

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
90 minute sleep cycle, article from the guardian;

We are all subject to a sleep cycle of about 90 minutes duration. In that period, we go from light sleep to deep sleep and back when we are asleep; or we go from feeling tired to being alert and becoming tired again, when we are awake.

Use your sleep cycle by noting when you wake up in the morning, without the use of an alarm clock. You'll notice that if you wake up unaided by an alarm at 06.00 and then go to sleep, the next time you'll wake up, is around 07.30. If you also woke up earlier, for instance from a dream, that would be around 04.30.

These are your awake-times in the morning. But most people calculate the time they need to get to work, and count backwards to the time they set their alarm - often ensuring that they wake up between their awake-times, when their bodies are in deep sleep. Instead of waking up fresh, you stagger out of bed like a zombie.

If you set your alarm for the awake-time prior, you'll get out of bed with a bounce.

The sleep cycle also affects how quickly we fall asleep. You can actually count backwards in 90-minute segments from your awake time(s), to find your various "fall asleep easily" moments in the evening.

Here's what people do wrong - they dally too long when they feel tired in the evening, and pass the time when they would naturally be submerging into sleep, getting into bed when they are reemerging from a deep tired state.

Then they toss about in bed for up to an hour before their body is properly submerged again.

Know your sleep-times as well as you know your awake-times. I have been using this system for over 30 years, and I'm religious about it. I fall asleep in five minutes, and I bounce out of bed in the morning. But if I disrespect these times, I stagger out of bed in the morning, drowsy and joints stiff - or I lie tossing in bed for nearly an hour, before I fall asleep.

What a lot of people do wrong in the evenings, is that they can feel they are getting tired, but they just have to do a bit of house cleaning, or walk the dog, or spend too long in the bathroom getting ready - thus going past the submersion stage before they get into bed.

If you know your sleep time(s) in the evening, just time what you are doing for one of them, and make certain you are in bed as you begin descending into sleep, instead of waiting until you're ascending.

I start descending at 22.30 and Midnight, and if I want to get up very early the next morning, I have no trouble falling asleep at 21.00.

Using the cycle - and you'll find that yours also corresponds closely to a 90 minute one, though at your individual times of the day - you'll find sleep just became a lot easier, and a lot more rewarding.

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
I have been working permanent nights Monday to Thursday (and then either a Saturday night or Saturday and Sunday day) for near on two years now, before that would do two weeks nights two weeks days, so it's fair to say my sleeping pattern is destroyed. I normally get home around 6am and am awake by 10/10:30 and stay up all the way through without another nap.

I'm continuously tired but once I'm up I can't sleep again.

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
I am usually in bed by nine, asleep by half nine and up at half five. That's eight solid hours sleep per night.

Sometimes, at the weekend, I'll stay up till gone half ten.

Rock N roll lifestyle, baby.

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
Usually have 6-7, need 8. Can function fine on 6 but just feel a bit shit all day. If I have 8 I'm on top of the world.

I turned 34 this year and one thing I've realised is I can't go out on Saturday night and have 3 hours kip. If I do that I feel like shit for the whole week.

I spend an hour every day in the gym and I'm sure this takes a lot out of me.

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
I have a 2 and 4 year old so at the latest I'm up at 5 every morning. So it depends what time I go to bed on average that's about half 10 so I get 6 1/2 hours. Feel knackered for it too. I used to sleep from 10 till 8 every day barring weekends.

It just depends what you're used to. I do have the odd 2am start with a physical and mental job. Last week for example I had 4 14 hour days working in a row. I think that contributes to the sleep I feel I need. If I worked 9-5 in an office I don't think the 6 1/2 hours would be a problem

Re: How many hours sleep do you get?
It varies quite wildly night to night.

Sometimes 7 hours, sometimes about 4.5.

Average of between 6 and 7. Probably not enough.
